Workshop Descriptions
Informational Overview
In this brief presentation you will learn about the benefits
of using Sign Language to communicate with pre-verbal babies,
and you will receive an overview of helpful Sign Language resources.
Infant/Toddler Beginner Basics
A "How To" class for parents and caregivers with 0 - 2 year olds. Join in for a fun, interactive introduction to Infant/Toddler Sign Language. Through songs and play, learn how to encourage your preverbal baby to use signs to communicate. You'll also explore and preview Sign Language resources to support additional learning. Geared for parents and caregivers who already know that signing is a great idea and who want to get started now! This program also serves as an excellent refresher for parents who have signed with older siblings. Each module highlights different ASL vocabulary topics--The "Quick Start" module is the best starting point for new signers.
Infant/Toddler Essentials
In this 2-hour workshop you will learn why Sign Language can
improve communication between adults and pre-verbal babies and
how to structure communication with your pre-verbal baby
to encourage the early use of Signs. You will
also learn Sign Language vocabulary that is essential to the
care of young children including milk, hungry, thirsty, more,
all done, change, and hurt, and you will have the opportunity
to explore a variety of helpful Sign Language resources.
This workshop answers the most common questions parents and caregivers have about using Sign Language with hearing babies.
Infant/Toddler Series I
In these weekly one-hour workshops you will learn why Sign Language
can improve communication between adults and pre-verbal babies
and how to structure your communication with your pre-verbal
baby to encourage the early use of Signs for communication.
During this four-week series you will learn Sign Language vocabulary
that is essential to the care of young babies including milk,
hungry, thirsty, more, all done, change, and hurt, as well as
vocabulary from three of our introductory topics.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to explore a variety
of helpful Sign Language resources.
Infant/Toddler Series II
This session picks up where the Infant/Toddler Series I leaves
off. During this four-week series you will learn Sign Language
vocabulary from four of our intermediate topics.
The Infant/Toddler Series I is a prerequisite for this workshop.
Caregiver Essentials
In this two-hour workshop you will learn why Sign Language
can improve communication between adults and pre-verbal babies
and how to structure your communication with pre-verbal babies
to encourage the early use of Signs for communication. You will
also learn Sign Language vocabulary that is essential to the
care of young babies including milk, hungry, thirsty, more,
all done, change, and hurt, and you will have the opportunity
to explore a variety of helpful Sign Language resources.
Caregiver Series I
During these two-hour workshops you will learn why Sign Language
can improve communication between adults and pre-verbal babies
and how to structure your communication with pre-verbal babies
to encourage the early use of Signs for communication. During
this two-week series you will learn Sign Language vocabulary
that is essential to the care of young babies including milk,
hungry, thirsty, more, all done, change, and hurt, as well as
vocabulary selected from three of our introductory topics.
You will also have the opportunity to explore a variety of helpful
Sign Language resources.
Caregiver Series II
This session picks up where the Caregiver Series I leaves off.
During this additional two-week series you will learn Sign Language
vocabulary from four of our intermediate topics.
The Caregiver Series I is a prerequisite for this workshop.
Preschool Series I
During this series, preschool children along with their
teachers, parents and caregivers will learn Sign Language vocabulary
from several of our introductory topics.
Preschool Series II
This session picks up where the Preschool Series I leaves off.
During this additional four-week series, preschool children
along with teachers, parents and caregivers will learn Sign
Language vocabulary from four of our intermediate
topics. The Preschool Series I is a prerequisite for this
workshop.
Family Series I
During this series, school-age children along with their
teachers, parents and caregivers will learn Sign Language vocabulary from several of our introductory topics.
Family Series II
This session picks up where the Family Series I leaves off.
During this additional four-week series, school-age children
along with teachers, parents and caregivers will learn Sign
Language vocabulary from four of our intermediate
topics. The Family Series I is a prerequisite for this
workshop.
Family Sign-a-Long
A "Let's Do" class geared for early elementary school children. Sing songs, learn and review favorite signs, listen to stories and play signing games! Geared for families who have done some signing, but also serves as an ideal opportunity for beginning signers to sample a SmallTalk Workshop.
Family Story Time
A private story time for groups of families and organizations that serve young families, including schools, PTOs, and playgroups/support groups. Listen to stories, sing songs, and learn some words in American Sign Language through signing games and activities.
Meet the Author!
A public book reading with songs and sign language woven in. Meet local children's author, Dawn Prochovnic, as she reads a selection from her collection of picture books, "Story Time with Signs & Rhymes." Be prepared to participate by singing and signing along as she reads! Fun for the whole family!
Playgroup Starter Session
A program to help parents and caregivers start their own "Sign with your Baby" playgroup. Explore resources to support your interest in signing, meet with other families interested in signing, and get your questions answered. Bring your friends and make new friends along the way!

Browse resources, preview videos and CDs, obtain workshop scheduling information, ask questions, receive product discounts, have fun! A great idea for an informal gathering with friends!
Sing, Sign & Playtime!

Sing, Sign & Story Time! (For Librarians, Educators and Caregivers)
Learn practical tips for incorporating American Sign Language (ASL) into your story times and early literacy curriculum, and learn about the best resources to support little signers. This fast-paced workshop is interactive, informative and fun!
